High-Definition Quality Recordings on Your Schedule
At long last, a personal video recorder, or PVR, that offers high quality recordings of high-definition television shows. Now you can start building a personal archive of your favorite high definition TV programs without losing the broadcast quality.

At the heart of the HD-PVR is an H.264 high-definition encoder that’s built-in for high-performance, high-quality TV recordings at up to 1080i resolution, 720p or VGA/D1. I am only 14 and I set it up no problem, I recommend you search on youtube how to set it up just so you can have a visual, This does not support HDMI it supports HD componet cables (identical quality) it comes with everything to get you started.....(manules.... install disk.... a note from Hauppauge.... and double sided HD componet cables) ALOT of people have been asking if this Hauppauge HD PVR works with a standard defintion tv.... The answer is YES it can work with a standard def tv but that avoids the point of the (HD) part of it, If you have a standard def tv and your looking to record I DEFFINTLY recomend buying somthing like a Dazzle Capture card they run for about to at your local electrionic store. The price on this amazon seller is very well priced compared to the 0 to 0 on the Hauppauge website,

Hauppauge HD-PVR – works well but too much fluff – Chris R – Southern California
I just wanted it to capture HD video that I had been saving for months on my cable company DVR and was starting to fill-up the recorder’s hard drive. It does that very well, but I did not try any of the other features.

Only criticism is the whole concept of the unit; why doesn’t it allow you to plug a portable hard drive into the USB and push a single “record” button and then a “stop” button without the need for a connected PC?

I use this in a MythTV environment (Mythbuntu 10.04) and it works great. I updated to the lastest firmware when I received it and the only issues I had with it were MythTV related (channel change script required, etc). I’ll be ordering another one in a few weeks.

I don’t use the IR Blaster or the Remote so I can’t comment on those features.

Didn’t work with OS X…at first – Kevin Myers –
i had bought one of these under the impression that it could be used in Mac OS X with 3rd party software like HDPVRCapture and EyeTV. while that is true, the HD-PVR i got was aparently a brand new version of the hardware that both of those programs didn’t support. after talking to the makers of EyeTV and HDPVR Capture, they both ended up sending me beta builds of their software with updated product IDs and then i was finally able to use the recorder. so i guess this is just a weird circumstance that i got into but as of this writing, you can in fact use the HD-PVR on Mac OS X with those two software programs since they have been updated. it wasn’t so easy for me at first though.

[if I use my Hauppauge HD-PVR to record TV from my Comcast HD cable box. I record using the 9.0MB bit rate (out of 13MB) and the video, which I watch on a Sony 55 inch flat screen, is quite beautiful. I also have no complains about the audio, but I have a very basic audio set-up. Its very easy to burn recordings to DVD-R, but I find the editing software needs finer adjustment capabilities. In other words when you drop in an edit point, it's never exactly where you think it is. I've also discovered if you mess up the placement of an edit point, and you try to fix it, it sends the audio out of sinc.

I could not get the IR blaster to work at all.

The top of the recorder does get warm, but I've been using the machine constantly for a few weeks and so far no problems.

Sometimes when I change channels with my cable remote, their is a three second delay, during which time the tv screen displays "no signal".

It was easy to set up the HD-PVR near my TV. The USB connection to my computer was a different story. I ended up drilling a hole in the floor behind my computer desk, and another hole in the floor behind my TV stand. I bought a fifteen foot USB cable and ran it from my computer, down the hole, through my basement, and to the recorder.

Dispite the few gliches, I'm happy with my HD-PVR.

Excellent product for making HD video files – Bradley Schmidt –
I’ve only used it a few times, but it makes great quality videos from items saved on my HD-DVR. The videos are editable and play fine media streamers like the popcorn hour or WD Live. This could be a great way to permanently store HD video recorded on your DVR. So far it’s worth every penny!

A Pricy Disappointment – QuentinG –
I planned on using this to record gameplay footage off of my PS3. However, the unit is NOT compatible with HDMI format for my HDTV. Because of this, i was required to buy a set of component cables for my PS3. Also, the usb cable that comes with the package is only six feet long, and seeing how the device must be connected to a PC at all times I needed to buy a usb extension cord. If you plan to buy this device DO NOT but it on Amazon. The model they shipped me was NOT the model that is displayed in the package.

Great Product – –
I was able to create AVCHD (blu-ray compatible) and burn it to regular DVD4.7 disc. This is good because I have lot of DVD disc. I get away with buying BD burner and BD disc for a while. The Picture and sound quaility is excellent.
