I installed a Seagate 2TB hard drive in mine and transfer HD video to the hard drive prior to viewing. It takes a little pre-planning but works great.

The skip forward and back functions work IF the media is encoded properly. Some newer .MKV files won't play, but a conversion to .avi fixes that.

It's too bad firmware development has stopped for this unit. It could be a Great player if NetGear had continued supporting it.

Great product! – Dublin25 – Ohio
This is my second EVA9150. This is the best overall device to use for streaming movies stored on a NAS. Especially if you use IFO/VOB format. The UI isn’t the prettiest out there (still ok though) – but this thing supports just about every format imagineable.

Expecations Not Met – azzato –
The Netgear Digital Entertainer EVA 9150, offers great simplicity to show your digital content into a HD TV.
Here some cons about this product:
1. Too slow data transfer: I have been trying to transfer my music for more than two days (My library is 45GB). Twice, the file transmission abort itself. Then I had to transfer folder by folder. I end up investing more than 4 days to finally transfer my entire library.
2. File support: some videos it just does not play. System gets frozen and I needed to restart it. On some music files, player gets frozen for a while (20 secs) and it finally plays those.

I wish Netgear releases a new firmware soon to be able to tackle these issues.

Don’t Bother – John Campbell –
They don’t support it as they have moved on.

It does fine at some things; such as storing DVDs on a hard drive and finding your media files on a network.

But, it has a lot of bugs and support is now nil as they have moved on to a different unit. They are in a state of flux. It’s a shame because they were close to getting it right and now have deserted everyone involved. But, this should tell you something about the company. Customers are no use once they’ve spent their money.
